Subject pronouns

Definition / Explanation

Subject pronouns replace nouns when they are the subject of a sentence. They help us avoid repeating names or things again and again. The main subject pronouns are I, you, he, she, it, we, and they. They usually come before the verb in statements.

  • Use I for yourself.
  • Use you for one person or more than one person.
  • Use he for a male person, she for a female person, and it for a thing or animal when gender is not important.
  • Use we for the speaker plus another person or group.
