A2

Future: will (intro)

Definition / Explanation

We often use will for decisions made at the moment of speaking, for promises, offers, and simple predictions. It is useful when the idea comes to you now, not earlier. For example, I'll open the window sounds like a quick decision. It is also common after phrases like I think, I hope, and maybe. At this level, it is helpful to contrast will with going to, which often sounds more planned.

Key Rules

  • Form: will + base verb.
  • Short form: I'll, you'll, he'll, she'll, we'll, they'll.
  • Use it for decisions made now: I'll open the window.
  • Use it for predictions: I think they will win.
  • Use it for promises and offers: I'll help you.

Examples

  • I will help you.
  • I think they will win.
  • We will call you later.
  • Don't worry. She will be fine.
  • I’m cold. I will close the window.

Common Mistakes

  • ❌ I will to help you. -> ✅ I will help you.
  • ❌ She will comes later. -> ✅ She will come later.
  • ❌ I think they win. -> ✅ I think they will win.

Tips

  • A quick check: after will, never add to and never add -s to the main verb.
