El orden de palabras en phrasal verbs se vuelve más complejo cuando el objeto es pronombre, frase nominal larga o parte de una oración formal. En muchos phrasal verbs separable, un objeto nominal puede ir antes o después de la partícula, pero un pronombre normalmente va antes: put the meeting off / put it off. Cuando el objeto es largo o pesado, el inglés suele preferir colocarlo después de la partícula para equilibrar la oración. En nivel avanzado, estas decisiones afectan naturalidad y flujo informativo. La regla es gramatical, pero la mejor opción suele ser también estilística.
Reglas clave
- Con phrasal verbs separable, objetos nominales suelen poder ir en ambas posiciones: turn the light off / turn off the light.
- Los pronombres suelen ir entre verbo y partícula: turn it off, no turn off it.
- Frases nominales largas suelen sonar mejor después de la partícula: put off the meeting that had been planned for weeks.
- Phrasal/prepositional verbs inseparable no se separan: look after the child, no look the child after.
