Los phrasal verbs son una parte normal y potente del inglés, pero el control avanzado incluye saber cuándo no son la mejor opción. En conversación y escritura informal suelen sonar naturales y eficientes. En contextos académicos, jurídicos, técnicos o muy formales, en cambio, un verbo simple de origen latino puede sonar más preciso, neutro o profesional. El punto no es que los phrasal verbs sean incorrectos, sino que tienen peso estilístico. En C2 se elige entre opciones de forma deliberada. Se sabe cuándo put off suena natural y cuándo postpone encaja mejor.
Reglas clave
- Usa phrasal verbs libremente en conversación, escritura informal y habla natural.
- Prefiere alternativas de una sola palabra en contextos más formales, académicos o técnicos cuando convenga.
- Compara no solo significado, sino también registro, precisión y tono.
- Algunos phrasal verbs son lo bastante neutros para muchos contextos; otros suenan muy coloquiales.
- No reemplaces automáticamente todos los phrasal verbs: decide según audiencia y propósito.

Errores comunes
- ❌ The committee will look into the matter in a highly formal legal summary. -> ✅ The committee will investigate the matter.
- ❌ We had to postpone the trip in very casual speech where a natural tone matters. -> ✅ We had to put off the trip.
- ❌ Replace every phrasal verb with a long formal verb. -> ✅ Choose the form that matches the context and tone.
