Usamos Present Simple para rutinas, hábitos y hechos. Usamos Present Continuous para acciones que ocurren ahora o situaciones temporales. Las dos formas pueden describir acciones parecidas, pero el significado cambia. I work here suena a hecho normal, mientras que I am working here this week suena temporal. Este contraste es una de las elecciones de tiempo verbal más importantes en el inglés cotidiano.
Reglas clave
- Usa present simple para hábitos: I work here every day.
- Usa present simple para hechos: Water boils at 100°C.
- Usa present continuous para acciones que ocurren ahora: I am working right now.
- Usa present continuous para situaciones temporales: She is living with her aunt this month.
- Las palabras de tiempo ayudan: every day suele ir con present simple; now / today / at the moment suele ir con present continuous.

- The shop opens at nine, and people are waiting outside now. - La tienda abre a las nueve y ahora la gente está esperando afuera.
Errores comunes
- ❌ I am going to the gym every Monday. -> ✅ I go to the gym every Monday.
- ❌ She reads a book now. -> ✅ She is reading a book now.
- ❌ We are living in Spain every summer. -> ✅ We live in Spain every summer.
Consejos
- Pregúntate: “¿Es una rutina o está ocurriendo ahora?” Esa pregunta suele darte el tiempo correcto.
