El inglés tiene muchos reporting verbs, pero no todos siguen el mismo patrón gramatical. Algunos llevan objeto directo, otros van con to + infinitive, otros con that-clause y otros con verb-ing. Por eso no basta con el significado; también hay que aprender el patrón que corresponde a cada verbo. Por ejemplo, advise, invite y tell suelen llevar objeto + to-infinitive. Elegir el patrón incorrecto puede hacer que una oración suene poco natural aunque la idea básica sea clara.
Reglas clave
- say suele ir con that-clause: He said that...
- tell suele necesitar objeto: He told me that...
- Algunos verbos llevan object + to-infinitive: advise me to apply, tell her to wait.
- Algunos verbos van con verb-ing: admit doing, suggest going.
- Aprende reporting verbs como bloques gramaticales, no como palabras aisladas.
