Usiamo il Past Continuous per lo sfondo o per un'azione già in corso. Usiamo il Past Simple per un evento concluso, soprattutto se interrompe l'azione più lunga. Nelle storie, queste due forme lavorano spesso insieme. Per esempio, I was walking crea la scena e it started to rain dà l'evento principale. Questo schema aiuta a mostrare in modo chiaro ordine e forma degli eventi passati.
