Molti verbi frasali sono comuni nell'inglese quotidiano e spesso suonano meno formali delle alternative a parola singola. Per esempio, put off spesso suona più colloquiale di postpone, e sort out meno formale di resolve. Questo non significa che i verbi frasali siano sempre informali, ma il registro cambia spesso in base alla scelta. A livello B2 bisogna notare non solo il significato ma anche stile e contesto. La scelta migliore dipende dal fatto che la situazione sia casuale, neutra, professionale o accademica.
