Definizione / Spiegazione
Le indirect questions sono domande inserite in una frase più lunga, spesso per suonare più cortesi, più morbide o meno dirette. Sono comuni dopo espressioni come Can you tell me...?, Do you know...? e I wonder.... Il punto grammaticale principale è che la seconda parte non usa l'ordine delle domande dirette. Invece segue il statement order. Questa struttura è particolarmente importante nelle richieste orali, nei servizi e nella comunicazione formale.
Regole chiave
- Usa una frase di apertura: Can you tell me... / Do you know... / I wonder...
- Dopo, usa statement order, non question order.
- Confronta: Where is the station? -> Can you tell me where the station is?
- Non usare do/does/did nella embedded proposizione se non serve.
- Usa le indirect questions per suonare cortese in conversazioni ed email.

- Do you know what time the shop closes? - Sai a che ora chiude il negozio?
- I wonder why he left early. - Mi chiedo perché sia andato via presto.

- Do you remember who called last night? - Ti ricordi chi ha chiamato ieri sera?
Errori comuni
- ❌ Can you tell me where is the station? -> ✅ Can you tell me where the station is?
- ❌ Do you know what does he want? -> ✅ Do you know what he wants?
- ❌ I wonder why did she leave. -> ✅ I wonder why she left.

- Solo la prima parte è una domanda. La seconda parte si comporta come un'affermazione normale.
