Alcuni verbi frasali sono separable, altri sono inseparable. Con i separable, l'oggetto può spesso andare dopo la particella o tra verbo e particella, a seconda dell'oggetto. Con gli inseparable, l'oggetto deve restare dopo l'intera espressione. I pronomi sono particolarmente importanti qui, perché con i separable di solito devono andare in mezzo. Questo tema è importante perché un ordine errato può suonare innaturale o scorretto.
