多くの phrasal verbs は日常英語で非常に一般的で、単語動詞より口語的に響くことがあります。たとえば put off は postpone より会話的、sort out は resolve よりカジュアルです。ただし phrasal verbs が常にインフォーマルというわけではありません。 B2 では意味だけでなく、文体と場面への適合を判断する必要があります。
主要ルール
- phrasal verbs は会話やインフォーマル文で頻用。
- 単語動詞はフォーマル・学術的文脈で好まれやすい。
- 似た訳語でも意味・含意が完全一致しないことがある。
- 受け手と目的に合う形を選ぶ。
- 不自然を恐れて phrasal verbs を避けすぎない。

- I need to sort out this problem. - この問題を整理しないといけません。

よくある間違い

- ❌ We had to postpone off the meeting. -> ✅ We had to put off the meeting. / ✅ We had to postpone the meeting.
- ❌ I found out the truth. -> ✅ I found out the truth.
