定義 / 解説
may / might / could は、確信が低い可能性を述べる modal です。will より断定度が低く、慎重な推測に向きます。日常では 3 つの差が小さい場面も多いですが、might はやや控えめに響くことがあります。現在にも未来にも使えます。
主要ルール
- 可能性: may/might/could + base verb。
- 強い確信は示さない。
- 否定可能性: may not / might not。
- modal の後に to を置かない。
- 多くの文脈で相互置換が可能。
例文
- It might rain later. - 後で雨が降るかもしれません。
- She may be busy this afternoon. - 彼女は今日の午後忙しいかもしれません。
- He could arrive after lunch. - 彼は昼食後に到着するかもしれません。
- We might not finish on time. - 私たちは時間どおり終わらないかもしれません。
- This answer may be correct. - この答えは正しいかもしれません。
よくある間違い
- ❌ It might to rain later. -> ✅ It might rain later.
