定義 / 解説
これらの determiner は、集団内の見方を切り替える語です。全体を一つずつ見るか、 2 択をまとめて扱うか、どちらか一方か、どちらでもないかを区別します。意味が近いため選択ミスが起こりやすく、数一致にも注意が必要です。
主要ルール
- each: 集団を 1 つずつ見る。
- every: 集団全体を包括的に見る。
- both: 2 つとも。
- either: 2 つのうちどちらか。
- neither: 2 つとも〜ない。
- each/every は単数名詞を取る。
例文
- Each student has a book. - 各生徒が本を持っています。
- Every room was full. - どの部屋もいっぱいでした。
- Both answers are possible. - どちらの答えも可能です。
- You can choose either option. - どちらの選択肢でも選べます。
- Neither answer is correct. - どちらの答えも正しくありません。
よくある間違い
- ❌ Each students have a book. -> ✅ Each student has a book.
- ❌ Every people were happy. -> ✅ Everyone was happy. / All the people were happy.
- ❌ Neither of the answers are correct. -> ✅ Neither of the answers is correct.
