discourse markers は、議論の流れを整理し、読み手を導くための標識です。 C1 では単純接続以上の役割を持ち、譲歩、帰結、対比、補強、評価を示します。admittedly, in fact, consequently, moreover, by contrast, nevertheless などは、論理の見通しを良くします。重要なのは知っていることより、意味に合う位置で正確に使うことです。
主要ルール
- addition / contrast / result / concession / example などの関係を明示するために使う。
- 習慣でなく意味で選ぶ（however と therefore は同じでない）。
- 句読点・位置に注意: However, ... / It was expensive; however, we bought it.
- 多用すると重く不自然になるため、必要箇所に絞る。
- スピーチでは相互行為の管理にも役立つ。
例文
- Admittedly, it's expensive. - 確かに、それは高いです。
- Consequently, we postponed it. - その結果、私たちはそれを延期しました。
- The plan is risky. Nevertheless, it may work. - その計画はリスクがあります。それでも、うまくいくかもしれません。
- Moreover, the cost is higher than we expected. - さらに、費用は予想より高いです。
- In fact, the problem began much earlier. - 実際、その問題はもっと早く始まっていました。
よくある間違い
- ❌ It was expensive. Therefore, we bought it anyway. -> ✅ It was expensive. Nevertheless, we bought it anyway.
- ❌ Consequently of the delay, we missed the train. -> ✅ As a consequence of the delay, we missed the train. / ✅ Consequently, we missed the train.
- ❌ He is tired, moreover he went home. -> ✅ He is tired, so he went home. / ✅ He was tired; moreover, he had been working all day.
