定義 / 解説
reporting passives は、主節で情報源を明示せずに情報を伝える形です。ジャーナリズム、学術文、フォーマルな論評でよく使われ、情報源が一般的・不明・または主張ほど重要でないときに便利です。代表的な形は It is said that... と He is believed to...。前者は非人称的に述べ、後者は話題の人物・対象に焦点を当てます。
主要ルール
- 非人称報告には It is said/thought/reported/believed that...。
- 主語に焦点を当てるなら subject + be + past participle + to-infinitive: She is believed to live abroad.
- 先行時点の出来事には to have + past participle: He is believed to have left.
- これらは People say that... よりフォーマル。
- 情報源を特定しない場面で有用。

- It is said that prices will rise. - 物価は上がると言われています。
- He is believed to have left the country. - 彼はその国を離れたと考えられています。
- The company is expected to announce changes soon. - その会社はまもなく変更を発表すると見込まれています。
- It was reported that several people were injured. - 複数人が負傷したと報じられました。
- She is thought to be the best candidate. - 彼女が最有力候補だと考えられています。
よくある間違い
- ❌ He is believed that he left. -> ✅ He is believed to have left.
- ❌ It is said him to be honest. -> ✅ He is said to be honest.
- ❌ She is thought that she knows the answer. -> ✅ She is thought to know the answer.
