Definition / Förklaring
Vi använder there is och there are för att säga att något finns eller är tillgängligt. Den här strukturen hjälper oss att introducera saker på en plats, inte att beskriva dem direkt. Använd there is med substantiv i singular och there are med substantiv i plural. Den är mycket vanlig när man pratar om rum, städer, mat, möbler och vardagliga situationer.
Huvudregler
- Använd there is med ett substantiv i singular: There is a chair.
- Använd there are med ett substantiv i plural: There are two chairs.
- Det egentliga subjektet kommer efter there is/are.
- Använd a/an eller ett tal när det behövs: There is a park. / There are three parks.
- Den här strukturen följs ofta av en platsfras: There is a cafe near here.

- There is an apple in the bag. - Det finns ett äpple i väskan.
