คำจำกัดความ / คำอธิบาย

Reported questions คือการเปลี่ยนคำถามตรงให้เป็นโครงสร้างคำถามแฝงภายใน reporting clause ลำดับคำต้องเป็นแบบ statement ดังนั้นไม่ใช้ inversion แบบคำถามตรง Yes/no questions มักใช้ if หรือ whether ส่วน wh-questions ให้คงคำถามเดิมไว้ Verb ask ใช้บ่อยมากในรูปแบบนี้ จุดยากหลักคือเปลี่ยนทั้งลำดับคำและ tense (เมื่อจำเป็น)

กฎสำคัญ

• ใช้ ask, wonder หรือ verb คล้ายกันเพื่อนำ reported question
• คำถาม yes/no ใช้ if หรือ whether
• คำถามข้อมูลให้คง wh-word เช่น where, why, how
• ใช้ statement word order: He asked where I lived
• อย่าใช้ do/does/did ใน reported question ถ้าไม่ใช่ส่วนความหมายเดิม

ตัวอย่าง

• She asked if I was ready. - เธอถามว่าฉันพร้อมไหม
• He asked where I lived. - เขาถามว่าฉันอยู่ที่ไหน
• I wondered why they had left. - ฉันสงสัยว่าทำไมพวกเขาถึงออกไป
• They asked whether we could help. - พวกเขาถามว่าเราช่วยได้ไหม
• He asked what time the train arrived. - เขาถามว่ารถไฟมาถึงกี่โมง

ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย

• ❌ She asked if was I ready. -> ✅ She asked if I was ready.
• ❌ He asked where did I live. -> ✅ He asked where I lived.
• ❌ They asked that we could help. -> ✅ They asked whether we could help.
