Reduced relative clauses คือรูปย่อของ relative clauses บางชนิด ใช้บ่อยในงานเขียนเพราะทำให้ประโยคกระชับขึ้น ความหมาย active มักย่อด้วย verb-ing ส่วนความหมาย passive มักย่อด้วย past participle การย่อทำได้เมื่อความหมายยังชัดเจน และควรมองว่าเป็นการ "บีบข้อมูล" ไม่ใช่โครงสร้างใหม่คนละเรื่อง

กฎสำคัญ

People who live nearby -> people living nearby
The files that were sent yesterday -> the files sent yesterday
Reduced clause แบบ active มักใช้ verb-ing
Reduced clause แบบ passive มักใช้ past participle
ย่อได้เมื่อ Subject ของ relative clause ตรงกับคำนามที่ขยาย
