Relative clauses ที่มี preposition ใช้ได้สองรูปหลัก ในภาษาพูดทั่วไป preposition มักอยู่ท้าย เช่น the person I spoke to แต่ในภาษาเขียนทางการ preposition อาจย้ายไปหน้ารูป relative pronoun ได้ เช่น the person to whom I spoke ทั้งสองแบบถูกไวยากรณ์ ต่างกันที่ register ผู้เรียนควรรู้ทั้งคู่เพื่ออ่านงานทางการได้ และพูดได้เป็นธรรมชาติในบทสนทนา
กฎสำคัญ
- รูปทั่วไป: the person I spoke to, the company she works for
- รูปทางการ: the person to whom I spoke, the company for which she works
- Whom หลัง preposition ใช้หลัก ๆ ในภาษาเขียนทางการ
- อย่าย้าย preposition ไปหน้่า that หรือ zero relative pronoun
- เลือกโครงสร้างตาม register และความเป็นธรรมชาติ

- The topic she is interested in is complex. - หัวข้อที่เธอสนใจค่อนข้างซับซ้อน
ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
- ❌ The colleague to that I spoke agreed. -> ✅ The colleague to whom I spoke agreed.
- ❌ This is the room in that we met. -> ✅ This is the room in which we met. / ✅ This is the room we met in.
- ❌ The topic in she is interested is complex. -> ✅ The topic she is interested in is complex.
