Indirect questions คือคำถามที่อยู่ในวลีที่ยาวกว่า มักใช้เพื่อให้สุภาพขึ้น นุ่มนวลขึ้น หรือไม่ตรงเกินไป พบมากหลังวลีเช่น Can you tell me...?, Do you know...?, และ I wonder... จุดไวยากรณ์สำคัญคือส่วนที่สองจะ ไม่ ใช้ลำดับคำแบบคำถามตรง แต่ใช้ statement order โครงสร้างนี้สำคัญมากในการขอความช่วยเหลือ การบริการ และการสื่อสารทางการ
กฎสำคัญ
- เริ่มด้วยวลีเปิด: Can you tell me... / Do you know... / I wonder...
- หลังจากนั้นใช้ statement order ไม่ใช่ question order
- เปรียบเทียบ: Where is the station? -> Can you tell me where the station is?
- ใน embedded clause อย่าใช้ do/does/did ถ้าไม่จำเป็น
- ใช้ indirect questions เพื่อให้ฟังสุภาพขึ้นทั้งในการพูดและอีเมล

- ❌ Can you tell me where is the station? -> ✅ Can you tell me where the station is?
- ❌ Do you know what does he want? -> ✅ Do you know what he wants?
- ❌ I wonder why did she leave. -> ✅ I wonder why she left.
