Past Continuous 用于背景或已经在进行中的动作。Past Simple 用于完成的事件，尤其是打断前者的短动作。在叙事中，这两者经常配合使用。比如 I was walking 用来铺垫背景，it started to rain 给出主事件。这个模式能清晰展示过去事件的顺序和形态。

- 用 past continuous 表示较长、进行中的动作。

- when 常引出短动作；while 常引出较长背景动作。
